TAXONOMY OF POISONOUS MUSHROOMS
24in x 24in
Laser Cut Wood, Colored Pencil, Acrylic Paint, Wood Stain, Wood Varnish
As my debut into scientific and data visualization, I created a visual tracing the taxonomy of poisonous mushrooms. However, I wanted to include my love for South East Asian mandalas, and find a non-traditional way to present this taxonomy information. I settled on this circular spinning composition, where viewers can interact with the piece by matching up the taxonomy themselves.

INTERACTIVE
The image to the upper left and right demonstrate how each layer can be spun around a central peg to match and mismatch the taxonomy, adding a fun interactive puzzle element. The image on the right also displays how the piece can be deconstructed to reveal more information underneath each plate.
ENGAGING
The various puzzle and illustrative elements also add an extra layer of engagement for the viewer, inviting them in, and creating a sense of wonder for the subject.
